Linus Pauling Memorial Scholarship

E-mail Print PDF

The fraternity is proud to introduce a new scholarship for incoming freshman. The scholarship is named after Linus Pauling (Oregon '22) the famous chemist and nuclear disarmament advocate. Pauling is also the only person in history to win two unshared Nobel Prizes, one in Chemistry (1954) the other in Peace (1962). To honor the memory of this great polymath and DU man, the Rochester Chapter decided to recognize two incoming freshman which have achieved both scholastic and humanitarian success.

The first prize will be awarded in the amount of $800.00 and the second prize $400.00.  Applicants must submit an essay discussing the legacy of Linus Pauling.  More details on the essay prompt as well as upcoming deadlines are included in the Linus Pauling Scholarship attachment below.  The winners will be chosen by a prize selection committee consisting of University of Rochester Professors as well as Delta Upsilon Alumni.  For questions concerning the scholarship, please contact our current scholarship chair, Mike Skarlinski( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. (Linus Pauling, Oregon '22)
Pauling was included in a list of the 20 greatest scientists of all time by the magazine New Scientist, with Albert Einstein being the only other scientist from the twentieth century on the list.
